Governance

The CNCF governance structure establishes the framework for how the foundation operates, makes decisions, and evolves its technical direction. This section provides comprehensive information about governance policies, processes, and principles that guide CNCF projects and community groups.

Initiatives

Initiatives are lightweight, time-bound organizational units used for TAG or TOC work. They enable focused collaboration on specific deliverables while maintaining clear accountability and timelines.

Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs)

Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) are the primary organizational units within the CNCF that oversee and coordinate interests across projects, working groups, and the broader cloud native community. TAGs scale technical contributions while maintaining quality and advancing the CNCF mission of making cloud native computing ubiquitous.

Technical Community Groups (TCGs)

Technical Community Groups (TCGs) are lightweight, topic or domain-focused groups that serve as rallying points for community members to discuss, share knowledge, and coordinate potential future initiatives. TCGs are part of the broader CNCF Community Groups Program.

Technical Oversight Committee (TOC)

The CNCF Technical Oversight Committee (TOC) is the technical governing body of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation. The TOC admits and oversees all CNCF projects and has a mandate to facilitate driving neutral consensus for defining and maintaining the technical vision and principles for cloud native computing.
